The largest power station in the Middle East. More than 5,000 containers are transported in addition to generators and all kinds of packages
Capacity: The power station has a total installed capacity of 4,800 megawatts (MW). It consists of four coal-fired generating units, each with a capacity of 1,200 MW. The power station is considered one of the largest coal-fired power plants in the world.
Technology: The power station utilizes ultra-supercritical technology, which allows for higher efficiency and lower emissions compared to conventional coal-fired power plants. This technology helps reduce the environmental impact of the plant by minimizing emissions of greenhouse gases and other pollutants.
Construction: The construction of the Beni Suef power station began in 2015, and the plant started commercial operations in 2018. The project was executed by a consortium of companies, including the Egyptian Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy, the Egyptian Electricity Holding Company, and a group of Chinese engineering and construction firms.
Location: The power station is situated in the Beni Suef Governorate, located approximately 110 kilometers south of Cairo, the capital city of Egypt. Its strategic location allows for the efficient distribution of electricity to various parts of the country.
Energy mix: The Beni Suef power station plays a significant role in diversifying Egypt’s energy mix, which has traditionally relied heavily on natural gas and oil for electricity generation. By incorporating coal-fired power generation, Egypt aims to reduce its dependence on imported fuels and secure a more balanced energy supply.
